The Macroplaza is Monterrey’s huge main square. You could spend a whole weekend exploring its cultural attractions! Most of the city’s greatest museums are right here, which is an advantage if you’re looking to do a museum roundup.

The so-called “Three Museums Route” includes: Museo del Palacio, featuring the history of the state of Nuevo León; Museo del Noreste, where you can immerse yourself in the history of Northeast Mexico through a backwards narrative that starts with present day and ends in prehistory; Museo de Historia Mexicana, a modern take on Mexican history that is sure to dazzle you.

Another one not to miss is the MARCO (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey), featuring some of the best contemporary art in Mexico and constantly hosting temporary exhibits such as this Stanley Kubrick retrospective.

Finally, the Metropolitan Cathedral tops the list of cultural gems in this area. With a charming blend of neoclassical and baroque styles and an impressive oil painting titled Las Ánimas, this one is a must.

Right beside the Macroplaza is Monterrey’s most legendary party district, known as the Barrio Antiguo (old neighborhood). It consists of old, colonial buildings on the outside and trendy, loud bars and nightclubs on the inside.

Casa Morelos is one of the best places to party in Monterrey, period -there’s always a skilled DJ and a proper vibe. Looking for a live rock show? McMullen’s is a pub style joint that features the best of the city’s up and coming acts.
