Ensenada has become an established niche destination for beer lovers. The proliferation of brewers, brands, styles and beer houses has transformed this seaside city while boosting a vibrant gastro scene.
It’s easy to get lost among the plethora of choices for some fine beer tasting -it seems like there’s a new one every week! That’ why we made this comprehensive guide for experiencing the very best of Ensenada’s craft beer scene. Cheers!
Old Mission Brewery. If firewood pizza and craft beer sounds good to you, you’re gonna love this place. Enjoy the great food with one of the many lines of famed brand Ensenada Brewing Co, craft beer pioneers in Baja California.
Wendtlandt. Beer house, restaurant and factory, this place is a necessary stop in any route through Ensenada’s craft beer scene. Labels Veraniega, Harry Polanco, Perro del Mar and Vaquita Marina are all award winners at the Copa Cerveza MX national competition.
Ask for a Perro del Mar, winner of the best Indian Pale Ale category, and enjoy its fruity scent with an order of some magnificent pork belly korean tacos. If you would rather try a little bit of everything, you can ask for a sampler with half measures of several different styles.
Aguamala. Speaking of Indian Pale Ales, in this legendary craft beer house you can try the world’s runner up in the category. IPA de Astillero, Aguamala’s own label, won the silver medal at the World Beer Cup.
Also: don’t miss the Tostada Puerto, a humongous creation made out of local, fresh ingredients. They really know how to bring out the flavor of their beers with delicious food.
Doble C. Ocean view, open beer factory, guest food trucks. What else could you ask from life?
The house brand is the main attraction here. They have Porters, IPAs, Saisons and Blondes. You can ask for recommendations on food and beer pairings or get creative yourself with the guest gastronomic alternatives.
Baja Brew. They call themselves a “beer garden and collective” and they serve any kind of style you can think of, from Chocolate Stouts to Amber Ales. The best thing about this place is the vibe, with its ocean view and live or DJ music. It’s perfect for enjoying a slow sunset while sipping on their tasty creations.
Tap Room. There’s no food here, only a fine selection of international, local and house beers. They have tons of styles and flavors. Oh, and funny names too, like: Multiorgasmic, Fluffylicious or El Desayuno de la Abuela (Grandma’s Breakfast).
Troika. You’ll have to drive about 10 miles to get here, but the sensory experience is worth it.
Enjoy an epic sunset and Baja’s beautiful desert landscapes with a cool, local made craft beer and the exquisite, fresh made food that’s served in this food truck, located right inside the Guadalupe Valley.
These are the places that you can’t miss to get a full taste of Ensenada’s craft beer scene. Remember: if you’re driving from the north, City Express Hotels is a great spot to stop and rest before arriving in Ensenada (and on the way back).
