Guadalajara is becoming the place to be in Mexico. The second most populous city in the country has absorbed influences from all over the planet and is posing itself as a vibrant, 21st century metropolis.

Food

Let’s talk food. In recent years, a series of culinary alternatives have emerged and invigorated Guadalajara’s gastronomic scene.

At the head of this revolution is chef Francisco Ruano’s Alcalde, a perfect example of a contemporary approach to cooking. The dishes’ spectacular presentation is only surpassed by their flavor.

Chef Antonio De Livier left a mark at the restaurant in Hotel Demetria, another example of the gourmet side of the city’s gastronomic spectrum. After studying in Boston, De Livier came back to Mexico and, under his supervision, this place gave birth to some of the most exquisite creations you can taste in the whole city.

Another place by Antonio De Livier in Guadalajara is La Panga del Impostor, a fusion between classic Mexican flavors with some asian influences that the chef has acquired during his multiple journeys. With prime seafood from the Sea of Cortes and the shores of Nayarit, De Livier creates wonders like this sexy tostada.

Culture

In the past decade, Guadalajara has experienced an unprecedented and steady growth in the number of spaces dedicated to cultural activities. Alternative manifestations of culture, as well as classical, coexist in the scene.

Places like the Teatro Jaime Torres Bodet and Laboratorio de Arte Variedades host multiple styles of plays and theatrical presentations, as well as live independent music.

There’s always something to see at Centro Cultural Santa Cecilia, whether it’s an art or photography exhibition, a book presentation or a theatre show.

Party

At the crossroads between culture and party is a place called Centro Cultural Bretón, where you can catch local bands testing out their material with potential audiences. When in Guadalajara, you have to check out this place and discover some fresh, local-made music.

Nanna is one of the hottest clubs in the hip Zapopan area. Geared towards a young adult audience, this basement style antro is the place to go for a long night of dancing to mostly electro pop hits, past and present.
