Located in the heart of San Marcos neighborhood in Aguascalientes, the garden that bears the same name has become an unmissable place for families who gather together to spend a moment of disconnection in a natural environment inside of the city or for exercise lovers that happen to spend their mornings in the open air.

Icon of the San Marcos Fair

This beautiful garden is used as the central stage of the San Marcos Fair. Here, the opening and closing ceremony of the great event is held, las reinas of the fair are presented and Las Mañanitas are sung to the patron saint.

This fair is part of the aguacalentense tradition since 1828, when people attend to buy or sell from planting products to livestock. Nowadays, you will find different activities such as zip lines, mechanical games, typical food of the region, bullfighting shows, live music, among many other things that you will discover only by attending such a celebration.

Built in the year 1842 and surrounded by a beautiful railing made of pink quarry, the garden houses twelve hand-made copper-plated sculptures that represent the way of life of the old town of San Marcos. Some of these sculptures are people sitting on the benches, children playing, a roses seller, (people say is the most popular one) and even the representation of a bullfighter and roosterfighter, may be the most original one.

Don’t forget to try some typical sweets, antojitos and the famous chaskas, also known as esquites in other parts of Mexico.

A replica in CDMX

As a curious fact, there is a replica of the San Marcos Garden in Mexico City, built by the architect Mario Pani, called Jardín de Santiago, located in Tlatelolco.
